Anne Pieter van der Mei (A.P.)

Anne Pieter van der Mei is professor of European social law.

Career History

Anne Pieter van der Mei is Professor of European social law and chair of the department of Public Law. 

He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen, completed the Post-Graduate Course for Researchers in International and European Law (T.M.C. Asser Instituut, The Hague) and obtained his PhD entitled “Free Movement of Persons within the European Community - Cross-border Access to Public Benefits” at the Maastricht University in 2001.

 

Research Profile

In his research Anne Pieter mainly focuses on the impact of EU law on national social law ("l'Europe dans le social") and the role of social law and policy within EU law ("le social dans l' Europe").   In addition, Anne Pieter is a ‘volunteer extraordinaire’ for Africa Legal Aid, a Pan-African NGO devoted to promoting and protecting individual and collective rights throughout Africa and to challenging the impunity of gross human rights violators.  He is a scholar of the Maastricht Centre for European law and a member of the Ius Commune research School.

Teaching

Anne Pieter currently coordinates and teaches the Master courses European Labour & Social Security Law (European law School) and Europeanisering van het sociaal recht (master Recht en Arbeid).
